In their latest report analysing job ads on its website, Seek reported a 13 per cent increase in ads for tradespeople and other professionals in the building sector in Australia compared with the same period last year.

Health, safety, and environment professionals, as well as plant and machinery operators and contracts managers experienced the greatest rise in demand – 37, 33, and 30 per cent respectively. Other professionals experiencing greater demand include estimators, project managers, and planning and scheduling professionals.

In absolute numbers though, professions with the highest number of job advertisements were contract managers, estimators, forepersons/supervisors, and health, safety and environment.

All states have had higher numbers of positions advertised than the previous year; South Australia’s numbers were up 37 per cent, Victoria’s were up 25 per cent, Queensland’s up 19 per cent, New South Wales’ up 16 percent, and the ACT up 8 per cent.

While the future is uncertain, the industry for now looks extremely strong, with 35,000 more people employed within the construction sector than two years ago, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
